The Bad Rabbit Ransomware
by Tokunbo Taiwo
Bad Rabbit is the third global ransomware outbreak in 2017. The earlier ones were WannaCry in May and ExPetr (Petya and NotPetya) in June.

What do we know?
Bad Rabbit was first spotted 24 October 2017. Like WannaCry and NotPetya, it seems to be aimed at causing disruptions and is targeted at corporate networks. The source of the malware has not yet been identified.
The malware does not install itself automatically but employs the drive-by infection method. Websites are compromised through having JavaScript injected into the HTML body or Java files. Most of the sites identified so far by Kaspersky Labs are media or news websites. Victims who visit compromised websites are deceived to download and install fake Adobe Flash updates. This action downloads the malware dropper from the hacker’s system.
